Mission Statement

Our History:

In the fall of 1960, after much prayer and numerous calls to the many new housing projects around Chicago, the Lord led Rev. Samuel Muralt to Hampton Park.  The McComb family opened their home for Bible study one night a week and thus the work was started.

The church was incorporated as the Bible Baptist Church of Romeoville with 13 people signing as charter members on MAY 17, 1961.  In December, with the Lord’s help and much sacrifice on the part of each member, the house at 424 Everette was purchased to be used for Sunday School and church.

Rev. Muralt closed his ministry to the church in the summer of 1964.  In August of the same year, with 38 people in attendance, J. O. Purcell began his first ministry as pastor.  The church felt God’s leading to begin services in Park View School the first Sunday in October.  This was a big step, especially financially.  The Lord provided in every way; 122 were in attendance, and every need was met.

In March of 1965, the building committee began to make contacts and investigations into available property to build a church.  Within 3 months, God, in a miraculous way, provided four acres of ground on Normantown Road, which were formerly used as dog kennels.  Valuable wire from the dog runs was sold for $1500, and it was soon discovered that many of the buildings on the property were usable.

In January of 1966, the church voted to accept the architect’s plans from the Mosby Construction Company.  The church also voted to convert the dog kennels into classrooms for some of the older children.  After many months of hard work and cleaning, the buildings were ready for use.  Paneled and painted, they were used as a temporary home for the pastor’s study, the senior high, junior high and junior departments.

A groundbreaking service was held on March 27, 1966.  A few weeks later the building committee heard different bonding companies and recommended to the church the Preferred Bond Plan.  The church accepted this plan, and the majority of the $61,400 worth of bonds were sold in two weeks.  This amount covered the land, church structure and most of the furnishings.  Shortly after the bonds were sold, the foundation was poured.  On the first Sunday in October, 1966,  exactly 2 years from the time the church moved into Park View School, the first service was held in the new church sanctuary.

Under Pastor Purcell’s ministry the church went through three additional building programs to give us the facilities we enjoy today.

We have been blessed with six pastors:  Pastor Purcell (1964-1978),  Dr. Bryce Augsburger, (1979-1988, deceased), Rev. Wayne E. Booker, (1989-1996), Pastor Alan O. Carson, Sr., (1997 – 2003), Pastor Jason Stover (November, 2003 – October 2, 2005) and Pastor Steve Baker (October 16, 2005 – until present).

Meet the Deacons

A good number of families were called upon and became
interested.  Soon, the house was outgrown.  After checking into
the possibility of using Valley View School, they found only Sunday evening was available.  So, on February 19, 1961 from 6:30-8:30 p.m. a service was held.
